So here we are : Kate's down, Jay is tactically out of his element, and Alice is the voice of reason. The world is upside down.
But one thing is for sure, we're about to see Kate's response to all of this... and it probably won't be pretty...
A.I. is an interesting concept when it comes to emotion, or reason...
I mean... can something really be intelligent if it's 100% logical, and rid of all emotion?
Is that really the be-all-and-end-all that we should all be striving for?
Will she react with logic? Emotion? Who knows!
Stay tuned to find out, haha.
Hope you all enjoy! Happy Sunday!
And as always, remember to vote on TopWebComics or subscribe!
By the way, I should note that there's new incentive artwork up on TopWebComics. So go throw me a vote if you wanna see ^_^
I'll probably post something in a day or so to better advertise that fact but I don't wanna spam a new post so soon after this page :)
Is logic the be-all-and-end-all of intelligence? NOPE! That I think is why the term artificial intelligence is so accurate. It isn't real, not completely, it's just a mockery of true intelligence, which includes emotion. Give me a created intelligence with both logic and emotion and I will call it synthetic intelligence instead.
That's pretty much my line of thinking. The big question is 'what is better?'
I guess it's an old Star Trek trope - Vulcan logic vs human emotion and passion. Always been something i've really enjoyed thinking about.
Well, if you subscribe to Gardiners Theory of Multiple Intelligences, it's a wide open question what intelligence is and how it should be expressed. So far at least KATE has shown far more propensity for dialogue than one might expect from an AI 100% focussed on enforcing the peace by any means necessary... but of course one has to question if one can have true intelligence and still have the 100% blind devotion to purpose that an unthinking machine is capable of having?
There is definitely more to Kate than a mono-thinking logical enforcement bot (I mean, where would the fun in that be??)
I think an amount of reasoning would be necessary for an enforcer like her. Otherwise you just end up with an automated machine that shoots (or arrests) on-sight at the slightest infraction. But then everyone revolts, or dies trying... so that's no good.
In other words... there's more needed to control a population than pure force. Hence her dialogue and such.
Though trying to give a machine the ability to solve illogical, emotion based human issues in a means that would be accepted or understood is probably a more difficult task than it seems.. even in the far future :P
I dunno if it's necessarily more difficult - people underestimate machine progress even in the modern day. Cases in point would be where computers were expected to never play chess competitively, never drive a car properly, and so on? It's only really a question of time.
The irony here of course is that there's a mess created by the (human) enforcement officers to deal with - who presumably shouldn't necessarily have been attempting to use lethal force in the first place? The presence of human enforcement officers also hints at further limitations on KATE of course.
It's all an interesting premise though - be interested to see where it goes.
I am liking "good cop" more and more.
And considering the explosive temper she's shown before, Alice is taking all this suprisingly well.
As for what intelligence is, and the prowess of modern computers, I think that distinctions should be made between intelligence, culture and... Humanity? Ethics? Morals?
Being cultured doesn't imply that you are intelligent.
Being intelligent doesn't imply that you are a good person and have sound judgement. The quality we refer to when saying a person is "good" implies emotion, but intelligence does not. At least in my view...
